The dust has finally settled, the cosplay props are safely stored away, and the gaming controllers have cooled down. On the 12th of September 2026, the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos was transformed into a sanctuary for African pop culture. Celebrating its landmark 15th edition, Lagos Comic Con delivered a weekend of creativity, passion, and community.
As an official media partner for this year’s convention, the Anime Nigeria team was on the ground to capture every thrilling moment. Over 1,000 attendees gathered to celebrate comics, animation, gaming, and film, proving once again that the African comic, anime, and gaming communities are one of the most vibrant in the world.
The Ultimate Convergence at Landmark Event Centre
The energy at the Landmark Event Centre was electric from the moment the doors opened. Answering the theme “Where Are The Superheroes?”, fans and creators flooded the venue to showcase their talents and immerse themselves in various experiences.
This 15th-anniversary celebration brought together thousands of fans, gamers, artists, filmmakers, storytellers, and industry leaders into one massive cultural movement. The convention highlighted the immense growth of the creative sector over the last decade and a half.
Exploring the Experience Zones
To accommodate the massive crowd and diverse interests, the venue was split into highly interactive spaces. Each area offered attendees a unique dive into different facets of pop culture:
- Comic & Artist Alley: This zone allowed fans to explore amazing comics and discover art from incredibly talented independent artists. It served as a prime networking space to connect, collaborate, and create uniquely with industry professionals.
- Animation & Film Showcases: For visual storytelling enthusiasts, this section featured exclusive screenings, premieres, and immersive animation experiences. Live panels provided attendees with the chance to learn directly from experts and industry thought leaders.
- Gaming & Esports: The gaming zone was packed with high-stakes action. Attendees had the opportunity to play in free-play areas, compete in tournaments, and watch the best in competitive gaming action.
- Creative Campus: Designed for learning and talent development, this zone hosted selected sessions tailored to mentor the next generation of African creators.
The Cosplay Revolution
Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of Lagos Comic Con 2026 was the scale and quality of the cosplays. The event featured dedicated cosplay competitions, interactive costume experiences, and fan meetups.
Competitors who secured the dedicated Cosplay Pass battled through intense qualifier rounds for an opportunity to progress to the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and an epic Grand Finale. The craftsmanship on display, ranging from anime armour to accurate comic book suits, demonstrated the dedication of the Nigerian cosplay community. Fans were able to show off their costumes and compete for amazing prizes.
