Anime Nigeria is a Nigerian brand that promotes Anime and Japanese culture in Nigeria. We do this by engaging fans and enthusiasts through communities, events, and platforms.
Anime Nigeria was founded by a Nigerian otaku, for Nigerian otakus. Over the past 10 years, the gradual breaking of Anime into Nigeria created a need for anime fans to connect and come together. Anime fans needed a flag to rally under. We fulfilled that need by creating a central community and social media profiles to aid such purpose. Anime Nigeria was born from a deep love for anime and Japanese culture. Our desire to connect fans and enthusiasts across Nigeria grew into a central hub for everything anime or Japan related.
Anime Nigeria is more than just a community. We are a movement, ushering in a new era in Nigeria where anime and Japanese culture thrives and positively influences the Nigerian youth. Our mission is simple: to connect, celebrate, and empower fans and enthusiasts in Nigeria.
Our vision is to promote anime and Japanese culture in Nigeria.
At Anime Nigeria, our vision goes beyond the screen. We aim to be the premier bridge between Nigeria and Japan, fostering a deep-rooted appreciation for the art of anime and the rich traditions of Japanese culture.
We envision a Nigeria where anime is recognized not just as entertainment, but as a powerful medium for storytelling, creativity, and cultural exchange. By creating a space where fans can learn, share, and grow, we are building a community where the values of perseverance, friendship, and innovation, so often found in our favorite series, can inspire a new generation of anime fans and Japanese culture enthusiasts.
1. Normalizing Anime Culture: We strive to move the conversation forward, showing that anime is a sophisticated form of art and storytelling that resonates with Nigerians of all ages. Our goal is to make being an otaku in Nigeria something celebrated, mainstream, and deeply connected.
2. Cultivating Cultural Exchange: Anime is the doorway, but Japan is the house. We are dedicated to promoting a true understanding of Japanese culture, from its ancient traditions and language to its modern culinary delights and social values, creating a meaningful cross-cultural dialogue right here in Nigeria.
3. Empowering the Local Community: Our vision includes the growth of our own people. We aim to inspire Nigerian artists, writers, and animators by providing them with a platform and a community that appreciates their work, using the global influence of anime to spark local creativity.
Anime Nigeria was founded in 2021 by Mosh Oshindele, a fellow otaku. Mosh started watching anime when he was in Junior Secondary School. He was introduced to Naruto by his seniors in the school hostel. Mosh was able to relate with some of the issues Naruto had as a child while growing up. Naruto’s resilience, optimism, and good heartedness, got Mosh interested in Naruto as he journeyed through different stages of life.
Later on, Mosh discovered a handful of Nigerians watched anime. The only issue was that anime fans were isolated all over Nigeria. When the age of androids came along, he got an idea to create an online platform to connect anime fans all over Nigeria. However, this was not feasible because as a junior student, Mosh did not have the resources to bring the idea to life.
Years later, Mosh discovered that WhatsApp groups could provide the platform he needed for his community. WhatsApp was free and a lot of Nigerians used it for free calls. This was where it all began, as a WhatsApp group. Later on, Charles, a fellow anime fan, suggested the creation of a Telegram group. The community started growing gradually which later lead to the creation of social media profiles to reach even more Nigerian otakus.
Everything else sprung forth from these channels…
Our community is managed by a dedicated board of anime fans known as the Student Council. Under the leadership of the Student Council President, Mosh, each member is empowered to exercise authority to protect our members, enforce our rules, and ensure our community remains a positive and thriving hub for all otaku. This ensures our spaces remain safe, engaging, and welcoming for all. They are the pillars of our community, the ones working behind the scenes to organise events, answer your questions, and keep the conversation flowing.
The Student Council is made up of diverse members in terms of gender, ethnicity, age, career, and perspective. Student Council Members can exercise their authority individually or jointly. However, the Student Council President holds the power to override decisions, reverse decisions, and the final say.
Joining the Student Council is strictly by invitation only. All members are selected and empowered by the Student Council President, Mosh.
